Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer to meet US financial centre players in New York

Bern, 04.10.2016 - In the run-up to the IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will meet players in the US financial sector in New York on 5 October. The talks will deal with forming a first-hand assessment of New York's financial centre and highlighting the basis for Switzerland's financial market policy to US industry representatives.

Exchanges are envisaged with representatives of the US regulatory authority, the US Federal Reserve (the Fed), the banking sector and business development bodies. Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer hopes to gain an insight into how US financial centre players view the world's major financial centres, including Switzerland's. The issue of market access will also be discussed.

Federal Council Ueli Maurer will show the parties the basic principles of Swiss financial market policy and outline the advantages of the Swiss financial centre. State Secretary Jörg Gasser from the State Secretariat for international Finance Matters (SIF) will also take part in the discussions.

The delegation will travel to Washington, D.C., on 6 October. Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer as Head of the Swiss delegation, together with Thomas Jordan, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank, will attend the joint Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., from 7 to 9 October 2016.
