Switzerland hosts international workshop on environmental risk analysis in financial sector

Bern, 12.05.2016 - Today in Bern, an international workshop on environmental risk analysis was hosted by the Federal Department of Finance FDF. With this event, Switzerland is contributing to the current discussions on enhancing sustainability in the financial system. Participants in the workshop were members of the G20 Green Finance Study Group, as well as important global financial intermediaries. Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer opened this morning's discussions.

In his opening remarks, Switzerland's Finance Minister Ueli Maurer underscored the importance of exchanges between the public and private sectors and the significance of efforts to take better account of environmental factors in risk analysis. The aim of the workshop was to take stock of existing practices in banks, insurance companies, reinsurers and institutional investors. In addition, the main challenges for environmental risk analysis were identified, especially those relating to data availability, tools and methodologies. The results of the workshop will be incorporated into the work of the G20 Green Finance Study Group. The issue of sustainable finance is part of the current work of the G20 Finance Track, which established a new study group on Green Finance under the Chinese presidency. Switzerland is represented in the study group.
