Further progress in the OECD's work on digital taxation

The timetable is ambitious. By the end of 2020, more than 130 countries in the OECD's Inclusive Framework are supposed to reach an agreement on new tax rules for multinational entities. Switzerland is also participating in these efforts.

EU removes Switzerland from its watch list

Switzerland meets and implements international tax standards. The European Union has acknowledged this and is removing Switzerland from its watch list.

Update on the Libra project

On 18 June 2019, Facebook announced the creation of a new cryptocurrency, Libra, managed by a Geneva-based association, the Libra Association. Its members include major multinationals and non-governmental organisations.

US Senate approves the protocol amending the DTA

On 17 July 2019, the US Senate approved the 2009 protocol amending the double taxation agreement (DTA) in the area of income tax between Switzerland and the USA. It is a milestone in the tax relations between Switzerland and the USA.

Switzerland in the G20 Finance Track

At Japan's invitation, which in 2019 will preside over the Group of Twenty major industrialised and emerging countries (G20), Switzerland will participate in the Finance Track again this year. Within this framework, the G20 addresses key issues relating to the global financial and economic system.

SIF's updated position on the taxation of the digitalised economy

According to current plans, the OECD is to publish a report in 2020 on long-term solutions that once again adapt international corporate tax rules. In the light of this report, the SIF has prepared Switzerland's position.

Federal Council wants to further improve framework conditions for blockchain/DLT

During its meeting on 7 December 2018, the Federal Council adopted a report on the legal framework for blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) in the financial sector.
